The Essential Recommendation Bulletin #4

Count Basie: The Atomic Mr. Basie

Label: Roulette Records (parent company is Warner Music)

Released: January 1958

Genre: Swing, big band Jazz

Alright, so I picked this album because it deserves at least some thorough explanation. Yes, it is my cover photo on my Facebook thank you for noticing.

Count Basie, one of the most influential jazz composers of all time, orchestrated and released the big band revival record that took many fans by surprise. A clashing project that has brass in every corner–accompanied by wailing percussion licks and buttery thin saxophone. Each song, larger than the last, is a nonstop carousel of ole white parlor jazz with effortless rhythm. A lot of me wishes that I was dancing with a beautiful girl instead of packing my car to Nashville when I first listened to this. Regardless, nothing but elation and horrendous boogying crosses my mind when I hear Basie. A must listen.
